What is French Triple-Milled Soap?

Luxury soaps and bath products are becoming a booming industry. The best of these soaps have been around for centuries, and a perfect example of this is the "French Triple-Milled Soap". Also known as French milled soap, this involves a special manufacturing process that was invented by traditional French soap makers, as far back as the 1700s.

You may be asking what does that all mean exactly, and what precisely is involved in making French triple milled soaps? Well, as always, I am here to tell you!

In most cases they are manufactured with a combination of fatty acid like fat or oil, in reaction with soda. These are mixed together and a natural chemical reaction causes 'saponification'. This basically means it turns into soap, which is allowed to dry to form soap crystals. Natural colours and essential oils are added to these crystals, giving them special properties. The soap mixture is then passed through high pressure steel rollers (See photo below). This step is repeated a minimum of three times, hence the name French triple milled soap. The resulting soap paste is then pressed into the desired soap molds.


Why Are French Soaps Made This Way?

Now you know what French triple milled soap is and how it is made, it is now time for you to know why it is so beneficial compared to regular soap. By definition, a Triple-Milled soap is a top quality soap and here are the main benefits from this special process:

  • The soap ismore dense and will last many times longer than regular soaps.

  • Each bar will be consistent in colour, fragrance and texture
