Snail slime benefits For Human Skin care

Would You Use Snail Slime in Your Skincare Routine?

We're all familiar with the slimy and shiny trail left behind by snails and slugs, which most of us try to avoid. But would you put snail slime on your face or body? Obviously, not directly for risk of bacterial infection :)

But properly farmed fresh snail slime is one of the best-kept beauty secrets. It is known for its benefits in reducing wrinkles, improving skin texture, and stimulating collagen production. To avoid confusion, snail slime can also be referred to, on various product packages, as:

  • Snail Secretion Filtrate/snail filtrate

  • Snail Mucus

  • Snail Mucin

  • Snail Extract

  • Snail Serum

What is Snail Slime?

Snail slime, also known as snail secretion filtrate or snail mucin, is a fascinating natural substance snails produce as a protective mechanism. This slimy secretion helps snails heal from injuries and regenerate their skin, thanks to its antimicrobial properties. Snail slime is composed of a complex mixture of glycoproteins, glycolic acid, and other beneficial compounds, and has been celebrated for its numerous benefits for human skin.

Snail slime has been used in traditional medicine and cosmetics for centuries. Its popularity has surged in recent years thanks to its potential to improve skin health and appearance. From ancient Greece to modern-day skincare routines, snail slime has proven to be a versatile and effective ingredient. Whether you're dealing with dry skin, wrinkles, or acne, snail slime might be the secret weapon your skincare routine needs.

What makes up Snail Slime?

For starters, the snail slime you see is over 90 per cent water. The remaining composition comprises potent beauty-boosting natural compounds, like hyaluronic acid, which moisturises dry skin.

You may not have ever considered snails, but unlike most animals and insects, they don't have legs or feet. This means that they need something to protect their bodies from the surfaces they inch along—this something is their mucus.

This excretion is packed full of naturally occurring:

  • UV protection

  • Collagen and elastin

  • Hyaluronic acid and glycolic acid

  • The anti-inflammatory allantois

  • Natural antimicrobials

What Are The Benefits Of Using A Snail Mucin Product?

Here are just a few of the renowned snail slime benefits for human skin:

  • Intensive moisturising properties like Glycolic acid for dry skin

  • Naturally exfoliating dead skin and unclogging pores

  • Skin reacts to the effective wound healing

  • Reduces skin inflammation

  • Anti-ageing properties; reducing the sign of wrinkles

  • Stimulate collagen production

  • Contains antioxidants that protect the skin from environmental damage

  • It generally promotes optimal skin health

Additionally, fresh snail slime is particularly effective in reducing wrinkles and improving skin texture, thanks to its natural components, such as glycolic acid and antimicrobial peptides.

Skin Regeneration and Repair

One of snail slime's most remarkable benefits is its ability to regenerate and repair the skin. The glycoproteins and glycolic acid found in snail slime work wonders in stimulating collagen production, which is essential for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness. This makes snail slime an excellent ingredient for anti-ageing products, as it helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

But the benefits continue beyond that. Snail slime also promotes wound healing, thanks to its antimicrobial properties, which help prevent infections and keep the skin healthy. Studies have shown that snail slime can significantly improve skin hydration, reduce inflammation, and promote skin regeneration. This makes it an effective treatment for various skin conditions, including acne, rosacea, and eczema.

Incorporating snail slime into your skincare routine can lead to smoother, more radiant skin. Whether you're using a snail serum, soap, cream, or mask, the regenerative properties of snail slime can help you achieve a healthier complexion. So, if you're looking for a natural and effective way to enhance your skin's health, snail slime might be the answer.

Anti-Aging and Wrinkle Reduction

Snail slime has been touted as a miracle for anti-ageing and wrinkle reduction. The glycolic acid in snail slime helps exfoliate the skin, removing dead skin cells and promoting cell turnover. This process reveals smoother, brighter skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Additionally, snail slime contains hyaluronic acid, which helps to retain moisture in the skin, plumping up wrinkles and leaving skin looking more radiant and youthful.

Studies have shown that snail slime can increase collagen production, essential for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness. Collagen production naturally decreases with age, leading to sagging skin and wrinkles. By stimulating collagen production, snail slime helps restore skin elasticity and firmness, reducing wrinkles and fine lines.

Furthermore, snail slime contains antioxidants that help to protect the skin from environmental stressors and damage caused by free radicals. This helps to prevent premature ageing and reduces the appearance of age spots and hyperpigmentation.

Beauty Lovers Have Used Snail Slime Secretion Filtrate For Years

Snail slime has been used for beauty and anti-ageing for hundreds of years. It is long used in Asian beauty products, particularly Korean face masks and creams.

Decades ago in France, it was noted that farmers who handled snails for escargot had smooth and gorgeous skin. It is even said that in ancient Greece, Hippocrates prescribed a formula of crushed snails and sour milk to cure inflammation.

Has the information above intrigued you, but you still need to get on board? You may be happy to learn that most beauty products incorporating snail slime use indoor farm-raised snails. This controlled environment ensures that the snail mucin does not contain unknown environmental toxins.

Still Not Convinced By Snail Mucin?

If you are still unconvinced, you might be surprised to learn that you already used it. While many snail beauty brands advertise this key ingredient in their name, for many, slime is one of many components, like glycolic acid. In other words, if you still need to read your labels, it might be there, and you didn't even know.

Snail mucin also contains antioxidants that help protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals.

At Natural French Soap, we believe nature has much to offer in terms of chemical-free beauty solutions. For this reason, we have added our shea butter-infused Savon au Mucus d'Escargot to our product line!

“I would like my pictures to look as if a human being had passed between them, like a snail, leaving a trail of the human presence and memory trace of past events, as the snail leaves its slime.”

Can the snail slime(not the product) be applied directly to the skin

In 2012 I saw an advert showing the results of snail slime as an ingredient in Celltone. I bought Celltone. The ointment/cream removed a large mole on my cheek. It also got rid of scar tissue on my arm. Then, the product was removed from the shelves in both South Africa and in the UK where I had been able to buy a similar product from Holland and Barret, which had been imported from Germany. When the product was reintroduced in both countries, the 'magic' ingredient had been removed. I am hoping that there is a brand which includes that original ingredient and that this comment will illicit a positive response. Thank you.
